The Assistant is a chat inside the app: you ask for what you want in your own words and it sets it up. Use it to get answers about how something works and to take on the heavy lifting of building profiles and triggers. If you'd rather use an AI you already have on your PC, like Claude or the ChatGPT desktop app, Settings → Connect an AI gives it access to the app.
Everything it can do
- Answers questions about the app using the help guides, and links you to the guide.
- Reviews your profiles, triggers and app status: what's connected, which game is active and what's missing.
- Creates new profiles and triggers, or changes the ones you have (gifts, commands, durations), from a single sentence. It also handles the other modules: alerts (including the advanced designer's layers), deck buttons, chat voice, music, economy, counters, goals, chatbot and overlay settings.
- Runs commands in the game, fires triggers, switches the active profile and simulates stream events for testing.
- Gives you links that open the screen it's talking about, without closing the chat.
- Look-ups happen on their own; actions and changes wait until you press "Apply".
- Every change is listed in Settings → Connect an AI under "Changes made by the AI", with an "Undo" button.
- Works with nothing to set up using OverInteractive's AI: Pro includes 20 messages a month and you can buy packs that never expire. Or use it without limits with an AI you provide, for free: Gemini with a free Google key, Ollama on your PC, another provider or your chatbot's AI.
- You can also connect Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT / Codex and other compatible AI apps to control the app.
How the Assistant works
Open it with the Assistant button (the sparkles icon) on the action bar on the right. Type what you need or pick one of the examples. When it only needs to look at something (your profiles, the game's commands, connection status) it does so on its own; when it's about to act or change something, it shows you a card explaining what will happen and waits for your answer.
- "Apply" carries out the proposal; when several cards are pending the button reads "Apply all" and approves them together.
- "Cancel" discards the proposal. Typing something else while a card is pending cancels it too.
- "Stop" cuts off a reply that's taking too long, and "New conversation" starts from scratch.
- What it does is real: a command it runs or an event it simulates shows up in the game, the overlays and your stream.
Which AI it uses
The Assistant is part of Pro. With nothing to set up it uses OverInteractive's AI: 20 messages a month included, and if you need more, one-time PayPal packs that never expire ("More messages" under the chat). If you'd rather have no limit, use your own AI: in Settings → Connect an AI you pick the provider and paste your key, or use Ollama on your PC. If you've already set up an AI in Chatbot → AI, you can also pick "My chatbot's AI": it's never used unless you pick it there.
- Under the text box you always see your balance or which AI you're talking to; click it to change it.
- With your own AI, the model must support tools: the app tests it before saving it.
- With your own AI, the limits and cost are those of your account with that provider.
Your own AI, with no message limit
In Settings → Connect an AI, option "Your own AI: your key or on your PC", press "Set up". Pick the provider from the list (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, Groq, Mistral, xAI, OpenRouter, Ollama or an OpenAI-compatible server), the model, and paste your key. The app tests the AI before using it and stores the key encrypted on your PC.
- With a key: every provider has a "Get a key" link. Some have a free tier with limits; others charge for what you use.
- On your PC with Ollama: install Ollama, download a model that can use tools (for example qwen3:8b) and press "Check". No key or internet needed, but it uses the graphics card: with the game and OBS open it may be slower.
- Your own server: any OpenAI-compatible address, with its model and, if it asks for one, its key.
Connecting an external AI
In Settings → Connect an AI you can give an AI you already use on your PC access to the app. Turn on "Let an AI use the app", pick your AI under "Connect your AI" and follow that tab's instructions: you copy a config or a command and restart the AI. OverInteractive has to be open while you use it. These options don't affect the built-in Assistant.
- Claude Desktop: paste the config via Settings → Developer → Edit Config, save, and fully quit Claude before opening it again. Don't use "Add custom connector".
- Claude Code: run the command the app gives you in a terminal.
- ChatGPT / Codex: works for the ChatGPT desktop app (Codex), Codex CLI and its VS Code extension.
- DeepSeek and others: DeepSeek can't connect from its website or app; use it from an app that supports MCP and lets you pick it as the model, such as Cherry Studio or Chatbox. The same config works for Cursor, Windsurf, LM Studio and VS Code.
- HTTP (advanced): for clients that connect by address. This is where you see the "Access key", can show it and can "Create new key".
- Web versions (claude.ai or ChatGPT in the browser) can't reach the app on your PC: use the desktop versions.
Permissions and undo
Under "What it can do" you decide how far an external AI can go. "View" is always on; "Act" and "Edit" can be turned off at any time. With an external AI there's no "Apply" step inside OverInteractive: whatever you allow, it does directly (your AI may ask you to confirm on its side), so leave off anything you don't want it doing.
- View: profiles, triggers, each game's commands, gifts and connection status.
- Act: run commands in the game, fire triggers, switch the active profile and simulate events. Shows on stream.
- Edit: create, change and delete profiles and triggers.
- "Changes made by the AI" lists every change, from the Assistant or an external AI, with its "Undo" button.
- Anyone with the access key can control the app from this PC: don't share it or show it in a video.
Step by step
- If you don't have Pro yet, activate it in Settings → Subscription.
- The first time, set up a free AI: the panel takes you to Settings → Connect an AI and guides you step by step.
- Press Assistant (the sparkles icon) on the action bar on the right.
- Ask for something specific, such as "when someone sends a Rose, spawn 3 enemies", or pick one of the examples.
- Read the confirmation card and press "Apply" or "Cancel".
- If you don't like a change, undo it in Settings → Connect an AI → "Changes made by the AI".
- To use Claude, ChatGPT or another desktop AI, turn on "Let an AI use the app" and follow your AI's tab.
FAQ
Do I need Pro?
For the built-in Assistant, yes. Connecting an external AI from Settings → Connect an AI doesn't require Pro: that AI runs on your own Claude, ChatGPT or other account.
Do I have to pay for an AI?
No. With a free Gemini key or Ollama on your PC you pay nothing. If you choose a paid provider, that provider bills what you use to your account.
Can I use claude.ai or ChatGPT in the browser?
No. Web versions only connect to servers published on the internet and can't reach the app on your PC. Use Claude Desktop, Claude Code or the ChatGPT desktop app, with OverInteractive open.
Do the Connect an AI switches affect the Assistant?
No. They only control external AIs. The built-in Assistant always asks for your confirmation before acting or changing anything.
