Likes is the most inclusive: anyone can climb without spending. Gifts and bits reward financial contribution. Many channels run both, one smaller than the other.

A ranking works when the audience knows how far they are from moving up. Keep the numeric value and the current contributor visible; hiding the total usually drains the tension.
